LEPRA NSW Privacy Policy
Effective date: 5 October 2026
Last updated: 5 October 2026
LEPRA NSW (the App) is an independent reference application for the NSW Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act 2002. It is a reading companion, not legal advice; the official NSW legislation website prevails.
ZEROSPEC (ZEROSPEC, we, us or our) operates the App. This policy explains how we handle personal information in connection with the App. It does not apply to independent third-party services or websites you choose to use from the App.
Where the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) applies to our handling of personal information, we aim to handle it consistently with applicable requirements, including the Australian Privacy Principles.
The App does not require an account. Your library data, notes, preferences and cached reference material remain on your device unless you choose to export, share, email or otherwise send information using a feature outside the App.
1. Information stored locally on your device
The App stores the following information locally so that it can provide its features:
- favourite sections;
- text highlights and selected highlight-colour preferences;
- private notes created against sections;
- theme, text-size and colour-blind accessibility preferences;
- the last successful source-data check time;
- validated reference datasets and historical Act snapshots cached for offline use; and
- local application and archive-cache state.
This information is not automatically sent to ZEROSPEC. You may remove it by clearing the App's storage or uninstalling the App through Android settings. Some in-App data can be exported as a backup and imported again only at your direction.
2. Optional online updates and official sources
The App may connect to public sources when you choose to check for or download validated updates to the LEPRA reference dataset and historical Act snapshots. These requests may disclose ordinary technical connection information to the relevant provider, such as an IP address, request time and device or network headers.
The App may connect to GitHub and raw.githubusercontent.com for the public LEPRA data repository and update manifest, and NSW Legislation when you open official source links or otherwise request content from that website. Routine update checks do not send your favourites, highlights, notes, search queries or accessibility preferences to ZEROSPEC.
3. Backups, files and sharing
The App provides optional backup, restore and sharing features. An exported backup is a JSON file containing the library data you choose to export, including favourites, highlights and notes. When you import a backup, the App reads only the file you select through Android's system file picker. The App does not scan your device or upload files automatically.
If you choose to share an exported backup, citation, section text or link, the application you choose to receive it may process that information under its own privacy policy. The App uses Android's system file and sharing components only to complete an import, export or share action that you initiate.
Do not include sensitive personal information in notes or exported backups unless you accept the risks of storing or sharing it.
4. Permissions
The current Android build requests only the android.permission.INTERNET permission. It does not request location, camera, microphone, contacts, phone or call data, notifications, advertising ID, broad device-storage access, health data, biometric data or sensor data.
When you import, export or share content, the App uses Android's system file picker, storage or sharing components for that user-initiated action. Those actions do not give the App unrestricted access to your personal files.
5. Information we do not collect for our own purposes
We do not intentionally collect or use names, accounts, credentials, user profiles, location, contacts, messages, camera or microphone recordings, health, financial, authentication or government-identification information, advertising identifiers, analytics, behavioural profiles, cross-app tracking data, or locally stored favourites, highlights, notes, searches and accessibility preferences.
The current Android project contains no advertising or analytics SDK.
6. Data minimisation and use limits
We seek to collect only the personal information reasonably necessary to respond to correspondence you choose to send us and to protect or operate the App. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information; use it for targeted advertising; or build a marketing profile about you. We do not use correspondence for a materially different purpose unless permitted by law or we notify you and obtain consent where required.
7. Third-party services and email feedback
Third-party services may process technical information or content when you choose to use them. These include GitHub, NSW Legislation, Ko-fi (if you open the voluntary support link), your email provider and any application you select through Android's share function. We do not control their privacy practices.
The feedback feature opens a mailto: link addressed to info@zerospec.au in your chosen email application. The App does not directly receive or store the message. Your email provider and other delivery providers may process your message, email address, IP address, device information and related metadata under their own privacy policies.
8. Retention and deletion
Local preferences, notes, highlights, favourites and cached reference data remain on your device until you remove them, clear the App's storage or uninstall the App. Exported backups remain wherever you choose to save or share them; ZEROSPEC does not automatically receive them.
If you email ZEROSPEC, we may retain the correspondence only for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain business and security records, resolve disputes, improve the App or comply with legal obligations. You may request deletion, subject to applicable legal or operational requirements.
9. Security and data breaches
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information we handle from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, interference, modification or disclosure. Local App data is protected by your device and Android security controls. No transmission or storage method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we become aware of a suspected data breach, we will take reasonable steps to contain and assess it, reduce the risk of harm, and notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner where required by applicable law.
10. International processing
Third-party providers may process technical information in countries outside Australia. Where personal information is disclosed overseas, we take reasonable steps appropriate to the circumstances to ensure it is handled consistently with applicable privacy requirements. The locations may vary according to the provider and its infrastructure.
11. Children
The App is not directed specifically at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent personal information to ZEROSPEC, contact us and we will review the request and delete information where appropriate.
12. Your choices, access, correction and complaints
You may use the App without an account, use its core reference content offline, decline online update checks, avoid external links and sharing features, and keep notes, highlights and favourites only on your device.
Subject to applicable law and reasonable identity verification, you may request access to, correction of or deletion of personal information you have sent to ZEROSPEC. Email info@zerospec.au with enough information for us to identify the relevant correspondence. We aim to respond within 30 days.
For a privacy complaint, email info@zerospec.au with the subject Privacy complaint and explain your concern. We will acknowledge the complaint and aim to respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the App, its services or legal requirements change. The updated policy will be published at the same URL with a revised “Last updated” date. If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to draw it to users' attention where appropriate.
